The 2nd Annual New Story Leadership for the Middle East sail took place Saturday 23 July 2011 on one of the hottest days of the summer. That did not detour two crews of five Palestinian and five Israeli college students, their program staff, and their Skipper and Mate for a sail aboard “Sparkle Plenty” a 1980 Mariner (NH) 36 sloop on Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay. Now in its second year, NSL brings Israeli and Palestinian college students to Washington, DC for 6 weeks of leadership training and internships on Capitol Hill, the World Bank, and other prestigious venues.
Google recently designated The Sailing Channel as a YouTube partner, which allows the company to rent its sailing documentaries to YouTube subscribers. Eight documentaries are available, including all four Lin and Larry Pardey videos. Soon all titles will be available for YouTube rental. The Sailing Channel also has partnered with Miniweb.TV, a U.K. company that uses the Woomi App to stream Web-based content to Internet-connected TVs. As a Miniweb partner, TheSailingChannel can rent its documentaries directly to global TV audiences. Woomi launched this month in Europe and will be available on U.S. Samsung TVs in the second quarter of 2011
With the coming fall season, East coast cruisers will be heading south down the Intracoastal Waterway. For many, the ICW looms as an uncertain passageway to warmer warters. But…“The ICW doesn’t have to be a purgatory, it can be a true pleasure-with the right knowledge.” That’s the main message from ICW expert, noted sailing writer and charter skipper, Wally Moran. In his new video, Heading South: First Timers’ Guide to the ICW, Moran teams with TheSailingChannel to bring his highly popular ICW seminar, to the video screen.
On Saturday July 31, 2010, TheSailingChannel hosted several college-age Palestinian and Israeli team members from New Story Leadership for the Middle East for a daylong sail on the Chesapeake Bay. New Story Leadership is a narrative based program specifically designed for young adults. It offers participants the tools to leave their old story of conflict behind and construct a new story of understanding, reconciliation, and partnership for the future. “Team building is a big part of the program and that’s where sailing fits in,” says Tory Salvia, President of TheSailingChannel and skipper of the host boat, “Sparkle Plenty,” a 1980 Mariner 36 (N.H.) sloop.
WPBT2, South Florida’s premiere PBS station, announces a partnership with TheSailingChannel.TV to develop a new television series for sailing enthusiasts. Adventures in Sailing, a ten part series, will feature classic and critically acclaimed films that capture the magic and adventure of sailing. Hosted by Tory Salvia, President of TheSailingChannel.TV, each half-hour program of Adventures in Sailing will showcase a 23-minute excerpt from a professionally produced documentary about sailing destinations, historic vessels, sailing skills, and sailing personalities.
TheSailingChannel is providing a portion of its sales from its new 38-minute HD video, CUBA: Forbidding …Forbidden, to the Sarasota Yacht Club Charitable Foundation, sponsor of the Sarasota to Havana Regatta, in support the Sarasota Youth Sailing Program and the Youth Sailing Program of the Hemingway International Yacht Club of Cuba.
