Video Fundraiser for U.S. – CUBA Youth Sailing

TheSailingChannel is providing a portion of its sales from its new 38-minute HD video, CUBA: Forbidding…Forbidden, to the Sarasota Yacht Club Charitable Foundation, sponsor of the Sarasota to Havana Regatta, in support the Sarasota Youth Sailing Program and the Youth Sailing Program of the Hemingway International Yacht Club of Cuba.
Originally scheduled for May 16, 2010, the regatta has been postponed to Spring 2011. The race committee was unable to obtain the necessary license to travel to Cuba from the US Treasury Department prior to a previously announced February cut-off date. It is currently illegal for U.S. citizens to travel to Cuba without special permission. TheSailingChannel will continue to set aside a portion of its “CUBA” video sales through the original regatta start date of May 16, 2010.
ABOUT THE VIDEO... CUBA: Forbidding…Forbidden features noted Canadian sailing writer and professional charter skipper, Wally Moran. This video is an expanded version of Wally's Cuba seminar, which he gave at the 2009 Annapolis Sailboat Show. It adds additional information to his November '09 SAIL Magazine feature article on cruising the north coast of Cuba. Filmed on the Severn River near Annapolis, MD, Wally opens by describing his "CubaHamas" route from Florida, across to the Bahamas, and down to Cuba on easy day sails. ABOUT THE SARASOTA TO HAVANA REGATTA... The inaugural Sarasota to Havana Regatta has been postponed to Spring 2011. It will be the first regatta to be held between a U.S. and Cuban yacht club in many years. Over 100 sailboats are expected to race with another 50 joining the fleet as support vessels. A major goal is to promote good will between the sailing communities of Cuba and the United States, and to raise money in support of youth sailing in both countries.
