with Wally Moran
Sailing writer, Contributing Editor to SAIL Magazine and charter skipper, Wally Moran tackles his first sail repair project using Sailrite's powerful yet easy to use Ultrafeed LSZ-1 sewing machine.
Each year, Wally transits the Intracoastal Waterway from Canada to the Bahamas, and sometimes to Cuba (He's a Canadian - he can!) And along the way, Wally maintains his boat, and now with the help of the Ultrafeed, he's doing his own sail repairs and planning some canvas projects too.
"The Sailrite machine was quite a bit easier to use than I anticipated it would be...and I have no experience at sewing."
The series begins in the Sailrite booth at the U.S. Sailboat Show in Annapolis, MD. There, with the help of Sailrite's Matt Grant, Wally assess the repairs to a torn batten pocket and leechline on his mainsail. In realtime, we watch Matt make the batten pocket repair with the LSZ-1 sewing machine.
In the next 3 episodes, Wally takes on the leechline repair, working outdoors at a local Annapolis marina. He uses the Sailrite LSZ-1 snd their proven techniques to repair the leechline.
"The key to doing this kind of repair is to work slowly, think ahead....The machine will sew thru multiple layers of cloth."
In the final episode, Wally bends on the mainsail, reviews his repairs, and takes his boat out on the creek where he hoists the repaired main for inspection.
"Whe you buy the machine...you have the manuals and you can download some of the online videos that explain how to make use of the machine."
